Vice City

City VC · Vice City Vice-Dale County

Vice City is the major city at the heart of Grand Theft Auto VI's setting, sitting in Vice-Dale County, Leonida, and billed on the game's promotional site as still the sun-and-fun capital of America decades after the '80s. Its advertised range runs from the pastel Art Deco hotels and white sand of Ocean Beach to Little Cuba's panaderías, the bootleg stalls of the Tisha-Wocka flea market, and VC Port, styled the cruise-ship capital of the world.

Modern Miami Basis

Grand Theft Auto VI presents Vice City as a contemporary, 21st-century take on Miami, Florida. This distinguishes it from the city’s earlier Grand Theft Auto versions: the 3D Universe portrayal drew on the 1980s, while the 2D Universe version reflected the 1990s.

Vice City is identified as a major city in Grand Theft Auto VI. No official map has been released, and no trailer timestamp or screenshot location is identified for particular districts in the available information.

Bay and Barrier Islands

The mainland occupies the edge of a bay in southern Leonida. Natural and man-made barrier islands lie in that bay and divide the city from Vice Beach, a neighbouring city within the wider Vice City metropolitan area.

Named mainland areas include Belville, Crosstown, Downtown Vice City, Ekanfinaka, La Perle, Little Cuba, Peacock Bay, Rockridge, Southside, Stockyard, Tequesta and Tisha-Wocka. Vice City International Airport is also listed on the mainland.

Vice City is the seat of government for Vice-Dale County. Vice Beach is treated separately from the city itself, despite belonging to its metropolitan area.

Earlier Crime History

Its in-universe history centres on a varied international population, a subtropical climate prone to natural disasters, and a skyline of high-rises and condominiums. The city’s 1980s drug conflicts gave it a reputation tied to cocaine trafficking, financial laundering and an extravagant nightlife culture built around neon, flashy fashions and cocaine.

Organized crime has been linked chiefly to cocaine shipments from the 1980s onward. Smugglers have used fast boats and narco-submarines to move drugs into and out of Leonida. In the late 2000s, traffickers reportedly supplied cocaine to Russian mobsters in Liberty City; Andriy Maximov was arrested with a boatload brought from Vice City, while the Rascalov Mafiya was later defunct.

Meth reportedly gained ground around 2008 and harmed cocaine dealers’ businesses. Around 2019, the cannabis-based drug Zombie was said to cause cannibalistic behaviour among users. Liberty City figures have also been associated with the area, including Sammy Bottino, a proposed Gambetti Crime Family successor wanted by the Vice-Dale Police Department around 2007. These accounts describe the setting’s wider history rather than confirmed GTA VI scenes.

Roads, Rail and Sport

The city’s named road network includes Interstates 97, 397 and 404; U.S. Routes 2, 3 and 35; Leonida State Routes 9 and 10; and Vice-Dale County Road 561. Catalan Boulevard and Southwest 9th Avenue are also named streets. The PortViceCity tunnel provides a listed tunnel connection.

Rapid transit in Vice-Dale County includes the Vice City Metro Mule, identified in Grand Theft Auto Online. The city’s professional teams include the Vice City Mambas and Vice City Manatees in football, plus the Vice City Narcos in basketball. Fleeca Field in Rockridge is the Mambas’ home ground, while the Narcos play at Sahara Arena in Downtown.

By the mid-2020s, city government neighbourhood-enhancement teams were undertaking community-revitalization and safety work. One listed office operates from the Rockridge Community Resource Center.
