GTA 6 Real-Life Locations
GTA 6 is set in Leonida, Rockstar’s fictional Florida. Vice City is the Miami. The Leonida Keys read as the Florida Keys, Grassrivers as the Everglades, Port Gellhorn as the Gulf panhandle, Ambrosia as the inland sugar belt, and Mount Kalaga as north Florida forest country. None of those real places appear under their own names.
Rockstar has not published a counterpart chart. The tables below separate official names from our readings, and they stay in pre-launch tense until November 19, 2026 on PS5 & Xbox Series X|S.
The state
Six official regions and the Florida they draw from
These six names come from Rockstar’s own Leonida tour. The real-life column is the inspiration we already use on each region guide. It is a reading of official imagery and copy, not a label Rockstar printed.
| Leonida | Kind | Real-life reading |
|---|---|---|
| Vice City | Southeast metro | Miami and Miami Beach, Florida |
| Leonida Keys | Southern island chain | The Florida Keys and the Overseas Highway |
| Grassrivers | Southern wetlands | The Florida Everglades |
| Port Gellhorn | Gulf-coast panhandle | Florida’s Gulf-coast panhandle towns |
| Ambrosia | Interior, on Lake Leonida | Florida’s sugar belt around Lake Okeechobee |
| Mount Kalaga | Northern highlands | North Florida forest country — with invented elevation |
Cities
Which GTA 6 cities have a real-life counterpart
Leonida is a state, not a single city. Rockstar has not published a complete city list. The rows below are the urban places we can stand behind before launch: the three official urban regions, plus Vice Beach and Waning Sands. The database currently files 9 city- and town-tier records under the six counties. That count is a catalog, including wiki-sourced names, not a Rockstar headcount. Open a county file for the longer local list, with each name’s evidence labelled there.
| Place | Kind | Real-life reading | Why it’s on this list |
|---|---|---|---|
| Vice City | Metro | Miami, Florida | Official region. The Miami match is a reading of the beach and skyline, not a Rockstar street map. |
| Port Gellhorn | Port town | Florida’s Gulf-coast panhandle | Official region. The Panama City-area resemblance is on the Kelly County file, not a studio caption. |
| Ambrosia | Industrial town | The Lake Okeechobee sugar belt | Official region. Rockstar shows the refinery; the lake comparison stays a reading. |
| Vice Beach | Beach city | Miami Beach | Filed as the beach city inside Vice-Dale County. The Miami Beach reading is ours, not a Rockstar label. |
| Waning Sands | Separate city | The Aventura and Pembroke Pines stretch | Named on screen in Trailer 1. It sits in Leonard County, outside Vice City proper. |
Counties
Leonida counties and their Florida counterparts
County analogs are resemblances. Five names show up in official material. Lummox County is the leak-sourced name for the forested north; Mount Kalaga National Park is official, the county name is not. Each file explains the match in its own words.
| County | Status | Real-life reading | Region |
|---|---|---|---|
| Vice-Dale County | Named in official material | Miami-Dade County, Florida | Vice City |
| Kelly County | Named in official material | Bay County, Florida (the Panama City area) | Port Gellhorn |
| Mariana County | Named in official material | Monroe County, Florida (the Keys) blended with the Everglades | Leonida Keys |
| Ambrosia County | Named in official material | the Lake Okeechobee sugar belt (Glades / Hendry County country) | Ambrosia |
| Leonard County | Named in official material | Broward County, Florida (the Fort Lauderdale / Aventura stretch) | Vice City |
| Lummox County | Leak-sourced name | north-central Florida forest country (the Ocala National Forest area) | Mount Kalaga |
Neighborhoods
Vice City districts and the Miami they point at
Rockstar has put six district names on screen inside Vice City, plus Waning Sands just north of the city. The readings below are the same ones on the confirmed neighborhoods page. The catalog holds 18 neighborhood- and district-tier records across the state; names that only surfaced in leaks stay off this table.
| District | Real-life reading | How we know the name |
|---|---|---|
| Ocean Beach | The Art Deco beach strip at the south end of Vice Beach | Named in Rockstar’s Vintage Vice City Pack copy |
| Peacock Bay | Coconut Grove, via Miami’s Peacock Park | Interstate 97 exit sign in Trailer 2 |
| Southside | The Brickell, Roads, and Coral Way side of the river | Same Trailer 2 exit sign, beside Peacock Bay |
| Tequesta | Brickell, named for the Tequesta people of the southeast coast | Route 3 guide sign in an official promo-site screenshot |
| Tisha-Wocka | Opa-locka — the name itself is the tell | Rockstar’s Vice City promo copy |
| Stockyard | A car-meet district. We do not pin it to one Miami neighborhood. | Trailer 1 car-meet scene and a U.S. Route sign |
Not a copy
Real places that are not in GTA 6
Miami, the Everglades, the Florida Keys, and Lake Okeechobee are the references. They are not locations you can select by those names. The same rule covers older GTA cities such as Los Santos and Liberty City, which sit on different maps. Place-by-place yes, no, and inspiration-only answers live on the is it in GTA 6 hub. Vehicles, weapons, and editions are answered on The GTA 6 Guide.
The interactive map draws those six regions over a real South Florida street basemap so the geography is easy to picture. The pins are illustrative anchors. They are not claimed in-game coordinates, and Rockstar still has not released an official world map.
FAQ
Real-life location questions
What is GTA 6 based on in real life?
Florida. The game is set in Leonida, Rockstar’s fictional state, with Vice City as its modern Miami. The other five officially named regions read as the Florida Keys, the Everglades, the Gulf panhandle, the inland sugar belt, and north Florida forest country. Rockstar has not published a real-world gazetteer, so those matches are readings of official material.
Is Miami in GTA 6?
Not as a named place. Vice City is the fictional city that stands in for Miami. The Art Deco beach, downtown towers, and waterfront are the reference; the streets, names, and borders are Leonida’s.
What city is Vice City based on?
Miami, and specifically the Miami Beach waterfront plus the denser mainland skyline behind it. Rockstar has never labelled the inspiration. The match comes from the official imagery and copy, not from a studio map key.
Is the Everglades in GTA 6?
Not under that name. Grassrivers is the officially named wetland region — sawgrass, slow rivers, and airboats — and the name itself riffs on the Everglades’ “River of Grass.”
Are the Florida Keys in GTA 6?
The Leonida Keys are. They are the official southern island chain, linked by long overwater bridges in the manner of the Overseas Highway. Real Keys names such as Key Largo are not used; Key Lento is one of the invented stand-ins.
How many cities are in GTA 6?
Rockstar has not published a city roster. It has officially named six regions, three of which are urban: Vice City, Port Gellhorn, and Ambrosia. Vice Beach and Waning Sands are additional named cities in our confirmed set. The locations database currently files 9 city- and town-tier records — a catalog, not an official headcount.
What are the Vice City neighborhoods based on?
The districts Rockstar has named on screen have Miami readings: Ocean Beach as the Art Deco beach strip, Peacock Bay as Coconut Grove, Southside and Tequesta as the Brickell side of the river, and Tisha-Wocka as Opa-locka. Stockyard is confirmed as a car-meet district without a single Miami neighborhood pinned to it. Longer lists online mix in leak-sourced names.
Is Port Gellhorn a real place?
No. Port Gellhorn is a fictional Leonida port town. Our reading is Florida’s faded Gulf-coast panhandle, in the Panama City vein. Rockstar has not named that counterpart.
