Leonida Penitentiary
Prison VC · Vice City
The Leonida Penitentiary is a prison due to appear in Grand Theft Auto VI, located southwest of Vice City and run by the Leonida Department of Corrections. The first trailer opens with Lucia Caminos incarcerated there, and the second shows Jason driving out to collect her from its reception area upon her release. Staff badges and Lucia's jumpsuit confirm the operating agency.
Trailer and screenshot appearances
At 0:03 in the first Grand Theft Auto VI trailer, Lucia Caminos is shown as an inmate at Leonida Penitentiary. The second trailer returns to the prison at 0:50: Jason arrives by car, enters the reception area, and speaks with a corrections officer while Lucia is being released.
An official GTA VI image also places Lucia inside the facility, wearing handcuffs as she is escorted with other prisoners. The prison is in the Vice City region, southwest of the city, in the area identified as Hamlet. Lucia is the only inmate identified by name. Stefanie, a correctional social worker, is the only named employee; the reception officer seen in the second trailer has not been named.
Florida prison influences
The penitentiary’s overall design appears to draw chiefly from a prison in Bradford County, Florida, although the available material does not identify that institution by name. Its placement southwest of Vice City in Hamlet parallels the position of a prison near Homestead, Florida; that real-world prison is likewise not named in the available material.
Its guard towers appear to have a separate visual reference: Wakulla Correctional Institution in Wakulla County, Florida. The Bradford County influence concerns the broader prison design, while the Wakulla institution is specifically associated with the towers. No connection to a penitentiary from an earlier Grand Theft Auto game is identified.
