Interstate 97

Interstate 97 is a north-south interstate due to appear in Grand Theft Auto VI, running through the heart of Vice City in the State of Leonida. It interchanges with Interstate 404 and Leonida State Route 10 and spawns the auxiliary Interstate 397, with signage pointing north toward Waning Sands and Leonard County; the I-404 junction features in both trailers, while the Route 10 interchange surfaced in the September 2022 leaks. The wiki treats it as the game's counterpart to Florida's Interstate 95.

Trailer and leak sightings

Interstate 97’s connection with Interstate 404 is visible twice in Grand Theft Auto VI promotional footage: at 0:51 in the first trailer and at 1:58 in the second. These scenes show the I-404 interchange within Vice City, where I-97 passes through the city’s central area.

A separate clip among the September 2022 GTA VI leaks showed the junction between Interstate 97 and Leonida State Route 10. Interstate 397 leaves I-97 as a branch route. Northbound guidance signs also name North Beaches and Lake Leonida in addition to Waning Sands and Leonard County, indicating destinations beyond Vice-Dale County.

Florida interstate counterpart

I-97 is treated as Leonida’s version of the Florida portion of Interstate 95. In reality, I-95 runs north from Miami through Florida to the state line with Georgia, providing the basis for I-97’s north–south orientation and its route through the Vice City area.

The name differs from the real Interstate 97, which is a Maryland highway linking the Baltimore area with Annapolis rather than a Florida route.
