Interstate 404
Interstate PG · Port Gellhorn
Interstate 404 is an east-west interstate due to appear in Grand Theft Auto VI, apparently spanning nearly the full width of the State of Leonida from Vice City in the east to beyond Port Gellhorn in the northwest. Its path crosses Vice-Dale, Mariana, and Kelly counties, and both trailers show its major interchange with Interstate 97 near Downtown Vice City.
Port Gellhorn footage and junctions
A north–south stretch in the Port Gellhorn area was visible in the September 2022 leaked footage, then again at 1:10 in the first GTA VI trailer and 2:28 in the second. Two of the leaked clips show U.S. Route 2 splitting away from Interstate 404.
The road’s Downtown Vice City connection with Interstate 97 appears at 0:51 of the first trailer and 1:58 of the second. These appearances depict a major interchange rather than simply a crossing. The western portion also appears to operate as a toll route.
Although the highway is principally presented as an east–west route, the material shown around Port Gellhorn indicates a north–south segment. Its alignment beyond that footage has not been detailed further.
Florida highway influences
Interstate 404 appears to combine features of two real Florida roads. Its wider route draws on Interstate 75, including I-75’s east–west passage across the Everglades between Miami-Dade County and southwestern Florida, despite I-75 otherwise being a north–south interstate.
The section through Vice City seems to take its cue from Interstate 395: the short Downtown Miami interstate designation applied to part of Florida State Road 836. The number may also allude to the HTTP 404 error code.
That numbering is unusual for the intended route. In the United States, Interstate numbers in the 400 range are generally used for loops or bypasses around urban areas, while Interstate 404 is not depicted as either type of road.
