Megamundo
Spanish-language television network VC · Vice City
Megamundo, meaning "Mega World," is a Spanish-language television network due to appear in Grand Theft Auto VI, apparently programming for Hispanic American audiences. It was introduced via a Mega Noticias news report in the first trailer, and the second trailer shows a Downtown Vice City tower bearing its name and logo, implied to be its headquarters. The network appears to parody real American Spanish-language broadcasters in the vein of Telemundo.
Trailer evidence and location
At 1:04 of Grand Theft Auto VI’s first trailer, Mega Noticias reports on the Vice-Dale Police Department’s prosecution of a Leonida man who has already been convicted. This is Megamundo’s identified news division and its first appearance in the game’s promotional footage.
The second trailer, at 2:23, shows a Downtown Vice City building marked with the Megamundo wordmark and logo. The footage indicates that the tower serves as the network’s headquarters. No earlier Grand Theft Auto appearances, programming line-up, prices, services, technical details, or gameplay role are identified for Megamundo.
Miami broadcast inspirations
Megamundo is principally modeled on Telemundo, the United States Spanish-language network headquartered in Miami, Florida. The shared “-mundo” ending is part of the connection: mundo is Spanish for “world,” matching the meaning of Megamundo’s name.
Univision and Mega TV are also possible influences. Along with Telemundo, both operate Spanish-language television outlets in the Miami area: Telemundo 51, Univision 23, and WSBS-TV. Those stations may more directly inform Megamundo’s presence in Vice City than the national networks alone.
