Backside Skateboards

Backside Skateboards is the HD Universe's skateboard and skate-apparel company, its name nodding to both the backside maneuver and the anatomy, and it also runs a surf offshoot called Backside Surf Co. Known from sticker art and the Peep That Shit travel guide in earlier games, it is expected to show up again in Grand Theft Auto VI.

Backside Skateboards is confirmed in Grand Theft Auto VI through a sticker on a tool cabinet at Brian’s Boat Works & Marina. It appears in the second trailer at approximately 2:31. No other GTA VI product, shop, sponsorship, or location connected with the company has been shown.

Earlier game appearances

In Grand Theft Auto IV, Backside Skateboards appeared in the Peep That Shit travel guide under its skate-shopping category. Its logo also turned up as sticker art on walls and lampposts, often mixed with other decals, while the company sponsored Fishmarket South Skatepark.

Grand Theft Auto Online expanded the brand into character clothing and vehicle graphics. Female characters could buy a Backside off-shoulder top and branded skate shoes; male characters could purchase the same shoes, but without the Backside label. A Backside-themed scuba suit was available to both genders. The company was also a main sponsor on liveries for the Sultan Classic, Sultan RS Classic, and RT3000.

Mascot design influences

The brand’s droplet mascot resembles Flameboy and Wet Willy, characters formerly used by the real skateboard company World Industries. Female silhouettes used in Backside designs seen in Grand Theft Auto V may also draw from Girl, a skateboarding brand associated with women-centred imagery.
