State of Gloriana

State MK · Mount Kalaga

The State of Gloriana is a US state mentioned in Grand Theft Auto VI rather than visited, evidenced by decades of its license plates decorating the walls of The Rusty Anchor and appearing on vehicles in the second trailer and official screenshots. The prevalence of these plates suggests Gloriana lies close to Leonida, probably bordering it to the north beyond Mount Kalaga National Park.

Leaked 1988 Plate

A preliminary Gloriana plate from the September 2022 GTA VI leaks was red, dated 1988, and marked “GL, USA.” The clearest appearance was on the back of a Creado being driven by Lucia. The same early plate was also visible on a Rebel and a Futo passing through an intersection near Cipher Mall. These leak-era sightings are distinct from the later official material and identify an earlier version of the state’s vehicle-registration design.

Official Vehicle Registrations

In officially released GTA VI material, Gloriana plates appeared on both automobiles and motorcycles. They were present in the second trailer and in official screenshots, although no exact trailer moments or screenshot labels have been identified. The official appearances establish Gloriana as part of GTA VI’s setting through vehicle details rather than through a shown playable location. Several different decades of the state’s registration plates have been represented, indicating that the game’s decorative and vehicle assets include more than one historical design.

Mount Kalaga Connection

Gloriana is classified with the Mount Kalaga region. Its apparent relationship to Leonida is tied to Mount Kalaga National Park: the state is considered likely to sit north of Leonida, on the far side of that park. This placement is an inference from the concentration of Gloriana registrations visible in Leonida-related material, rather than a confirmed map boundary. GTA VI has not shown Gloriana itself as a place the player visits; the state is presently known through its plates and regional context.

Georgia as the Model

Gloriana appears to draw chiefly from the U.S. state of Georgia. The connection rests on the similar state names, the resemblance between Gloriana and Georgia license-plate designs, and Gloriana’s presumed position north of Leonida. That arrangement parallels Georgia’s position beside Florida, while Leonida serves as GTA VI’s Florida-based state. The repeated presence of Gloriana registrations in Leonida also reflects the familiar presence of Georgia plates in Florida. No particular Gloriana city, manufacturer, vehicle class, price, modification, or gameplay feature has been identified.

Elizabeth I Name Link

The name “Gloriana” seemingly comes from an epithet associated with Queen Elizabeth I. Edmund Spenser used the name for her in The Faerie Queene. The allusion parallels Georgia’s own name, which honors King George II of Great Britain. It also aligns Gloriana with Virginia’s naming history, since Virginia refers to Elizabeth I’s title as the Virgin Queen. These comparisons explain the apparent Georgia inspiration without establishing that every part of Gloriana is a direct copy of that state.

Georgia in Grand Theft Auto V

Grand Theft Auto V used “Georgia” instead of “Gloriana” during the Moorehead Rides Again! television program. Leonida and Vespucci Beach were treated similarly there, using names associated with their likely earlier 3D Universe and real-world counterparts. GTA VI instead uses Gloriana, making the Georgia reference appear to have been replaced for the newer setting. The television mention does not confirm Gloriana as an on-screen GTA V location; it shows that the name later associated with Gloriana was handled differently before GTA VI.
