Ammu-Nation
Weapon store ST · Statewide
Ammu-Nation is the Grand Theft Auto series' ubiquitous gun store chain, selling everything from pistols and body armor up to machetes, RPGs, and miniguns, with more powerful stock traditionally unlocking as each game's story progresses. A fixture of both the 3D and HD Universes, the chain is expected to return in Grand Theft Auto VI.
GTA VI Evidence
No trailer timestamp, screenshot, promotional image, or Leonida location for Ammu-Nation is identified here. Its place type is a weapon store, but the available material does not confirm a particular GTA VI branch, interior, service, inventory, or activity.
Liberty City Restrictions
Ammu-Nation was initially referenced in Grand Theft Auto IV as a business barred from operating under Liberty City gun-control measures introduced by Mayor Julio Ochoa. Dimitri Rascalov said Ochoa had shut the chain down and pursued cases involving outlets beyond the city as well. Weapons were instead obtained through illicit shops or mobile sellers, including Little Jacob, Terry Thorpe, and Armando Torres.
By 2009, the chain had returned to Liberty City, though Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars used an online ordering model rather than walk-in shops. After the mission Pimp His Ride, purchases made through the PDA were sent by truck to the nearest safehouse, where ammunition appeared in a white pickup crate. The $10,000 Fully Cocked License, unlocked after The Offshore Offload, opened access to the top-rated item in each weapon class, including the Revolver, SMG, Double Barreled Shotgun, Carbine Rifle, Minigun, and Proximity Mines.
Chinatown Wars Deliveries
Delivery trucks in Chinatown Wars could be hijacked and taken to a secluded safehouse for their cargo. They were difficult targets: their doors were locked, they travelled quickly, and a driver leaving the vehicle attacked with a shotgun. A successful theft could yield a high-end weapon, an ordinary weapon, or no reward at all.
The game also sold Ammu-Nation scratch cards through various shops. Their prizes included armor and weapons. The chain was presented as a sponsor of an LCPD “Guns For Ca$h” amnesty effort, although that program was not usable by the player. An unused Ammu-Nation sign texture in Grand Theft Auto IV was attached to the internally named ch_ammunation_mh01 building model, used for the Superb Deli at The Meat Quarter in Algonquin; it suggests a possible abandoned plan for a physical outlet, without establishing whether it would have been interactive.
Southern San Andreas Stores
Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online placed outlets throughout Los Santos and Blaine County. Rural branches sometimes promoted hunting, fishing, or survival supplies. Most purchased firearms arrived with three spare magazines, excluding the Stun Gun, Grenade Launcher, and Minigun. Available upgrades included suppressors, lights, extended magazines, and color finishes. Several locations also contained health-restoring vending machines.
Armor was sold in super light, light, standard, heavy, and super heavy grades. Clothing racks offered jackets, while a rack near the armor area sold shades. Certain goods displayed in shops, such as alcohol and hearing protection, could not be bought. Downtown Los Santos and Cypress Flats contained shooting ranges; earning at least bronze across every weapon category was required for Grand Theft Auto V’s 100% completion. Range sites used Channel X, other Los Santos stores played Los Santos Rock Radio, and Blaine County branches used Rebel Radio.
Robberies and Online Contracts
Cash registers in Grand Theft Auto V stores could be robbed by entering armed, forcing the doors slightly open, and aiming at the clerk. Clerks responded with Assault Shotguns. They also became hostile when attacked from outside, when a vehicle entered the shop, or when the player arrived wanted. After a clerk died or turned hostile, the entrance could not be opened from outside until that clerk respawned; the clerk’s shotgun was not obtainable.
Ammu-Nation stock could be traded through BAWSAQ in Grand Theft Auto V. In GTA Online, Heists equipment was available through the chain. The Criminal Enterprises added a goods-delivery arrangement in which excess Bunker stock was transported to an Ammu-Nation location for payment. By summer 2022, the Gunrunning business was supplying the retailer with weapons.
