Mount Kalaga National Park
Mount Kalaga National Park is a national park hugging the northern border of the State of Leonida, due to appear in Grand Theft Auto VI. Its terrain of rugged forests, canyons, and riverways supports hunting, fishing, and off-road trail riding, and official marketing copy describes the surrounding backwoods as home to hillbilly mystics and paranoid radicals living beyond government reach. The area represents the wild, rural fringe of the game's map.
Georgia and Carolina References
Mount Kalaga National Park belongs to the mount-kalaga region. Its broader landscape takes its cues from Georgia and northern Florida, while individual features point to more specific places. The park’s canyon resembles Providence Canyon State Park in southwest Georgia, whereas the mountain behind its name most closely recalls Table Rock in western North Carolina.
These comparisons divide the park’s inspiration between a Georgia canyon landscape, a North Carolina mountain form, and the wider rural scenery of Georgia and northern Florida.
Suwannee River and Name
The river through the park appears to reinterpret the Suwannee River, which runs across northern Florida and southern Georgia. A railway bridge over the in-game waterway has also been tentatively connected with a bridge crossing the Suwannee at Ellaville, Florida.
“Kalaga” derives from kalvgv, a Cherokee word pronounced “KAH-luh-guh.” The term means “east” or “sunrise.”
